Questions & Answers

The main reason for converting a loft is the space you gain. If you have a new baby on the way, teenagers back from university or thinking of working from home, space can be a real issue. Your average loft conversion could see you add an extra bedroom and bathroom upstairs.

The reason a loft conversion is such a good idea is that it is a lot less expensive and disruptive compared to moving. Think about the solicitor costs, removal fees, the months it takes to complete, let alone the thousands of pound you will pay in stamp duty tax. All these costs make it another great reason to consider converting your loft.

You can easily find out if your loft is convertible. There are two ways of doing this. Firstly, if you have a tape measure, you can open your loft hatch and measure the total height from the top of your existing ceiling joist (which are the timbers you are standing on), to the underside of the ridge beam (which is the highest piece of timber at the top of your roof apex). If this measurement is 220cm or more, there is a good chance your loft is convertible.

Should you not have a tape measure to hand, you can also test if your loft is convertible by standing up right in your loft at the highest point. If you can put your arms straight up in the air, without touching the ridge beam at the top of your roof then there is a good chance your loft can be converted.

Yes. In normal market conditions, you will recoup more than your initial outlay when converting your loft. Having the extra space also increases desirability and thus makes your home easier to sell.

You do not normally need permission from your neighbours for your loft conversion, nor Planning Permission from your council (as loft conversions are usually counted as “Permitted Development”, but you may need to have a Party Wall Agreement if the project is in a terraced or semi-detached property.

The cost is generally determined by the size of the project, and what features you would like etc. We will help you achieve the best use of your space for your budget. Our quotes are fully itemised, allowing you full control over your budget. If we make a saving on an item, we are able to pass that saving onto you. Our quotes cover all stages from design to completion.
